This study investigates the use of traditional lime mixtures as an alternative to modern synthetic painting and cement-based finishes in the construction industry of the Philippines. Existing practices often involve multiple layers of film-coatings on building facades, which require regular, costly maintenance due to exposure to environmental factors.
The research aims to advocate for the use of lime-based coating system by highlighting its breathability, durability, thermal insulation, and water-resistant properties, making them a suitable natural solution for tropical countries.
The use of locally sourced lime is explored, promoting regional resources, supporting local creatives and skilled labor, and contributing to addressing ecological concerns through carbon sequestration.
