Introduction
This study investigates the use of traditional lime mixtures as an alternative to modern synthetic painting finishes in the construction industry of the Philippines. Existing practices in the country often involve multiple layers of external coatings on building facades, which require regular maintenance due to exposure to environmental factors.
The research aims to advocate for the use of lime-based finishes by highlighting their breathability, durability, thermal insulation, and water-resistant properties, making them a suitable natural solution for tropical regions like Davao and the Philippines. The use of locally sourced lime is explored, promoting regional resources, supporting local creatives and skilled labor, and contributing to addressing ecological concerns through carbon sequestration.
This study examines the natural properties of lime, and demonstrates its potential as a sustainable construction material.
